At Marc Oliver, no two days on Savile Row are ever the same.
Balancing client demands, exacting standards, and the rhythm of craftsmanship means that time rarely feels linear — some days stretch long into the twilight hours, while others pass in a blink, carried by the energy of unexpected opportunity.
One afternoon in mid-May 2022, opportunity arrived once again — disguised as a familiar voice from the past.
The call instantly transported me back to 2006, a defining time early in my career. The voice asked softly:
“Are you the tailor who made the red-carpet suit for xxxx?”
The conversation flowed naturally. We shared a mutual connection who had spoken highly of our work, and soon the caller revealed his purpose: he wanted to gift a bespoke jacket to a close friend — a man who had admired that famous suit for years and was soon arriving in London.
It isn’t every day that you receive a call from one of the world’s leading rap artists.
Ideas began flooding my mind immediately — designs, fabrics, colours — possibilities worthy of such a unique commission.
With only ten days until the client’s arrival, there was no time to waste.
When the day came, I was summoned to a hotel for our meeting. The schedule was tight — a warning that I would have no more than 15–20 minutes to greet, consult, select cloths, and take all the necessary measurements.
There would be no second fitting. The demands of international travel made that impossible.
I arrived, was warmly greeted, and ushered into a private suite.
There, waiting, was one of music’s most recognisable figures — charming, excited, and grateful.
He explained this moment had been sixteen years in the making. He wanted the best — and more importantly, he wanted to honour the craftsmanship, not negotiate it. In a world where celebrity often expects privilege, this was a refreshing, rare class.

Six weeks later, the finished jacket arrived at Savile Row — ready, sharp, and as distinctive as the man it was destined for.
It was collected and whisked away to New York, ready for its moment.
Not long after, a private photo arrived: Our client, celebrating at the Emmy Awards, wearing our creation — with a personal message of thanks that spoke volumes about pride, loyalty, and mutual respect.
